I was a late-comer - I followed Miss Snark's blog and the crap-o-meters got me thinking. I didn't take part (I didn't have anything to submit) but I sort of felt I was missing out on the fun. Then she posted about EE's blog and I popped on over. I wrote my first ever query and submitted it - eeeek.
How did you find EE's blog?

Yeah, I think I found out about EE from Miss Snark's blog. ::sigh - I miss that place!::
Although the cobwebs are, and have been, in full force lately. In my brain, that is.
I'll stop my rambling - for now.
I Googled "editor" and there he was! That was January or February 2007. Had to figure out the GTP thing and the Continuations, but once past those hurdles, it was all uphill! Yes, things just got harder, because then I started actually participating. :o)
I lurked in Jan 2007 - felt weird saying anything- then EE posted one of his "we don't have openings" and there I was. I posted an opening - and then I had to 'talk' so I wouldn't feel rude.
And I was hooked.
I found Miss Snark via EE. I googled 'writing blog' and found him. And I found Snark via a mention on EE.
I didn't find him until something like August or September, though.
I discovered his blog while studying (well, um, while I should have been studying) for the bar exam... I still mostly lurk, but sometimes comment on things and have one Photo Caption to my credit (as Anonymous, of course ;). Sometimes I'm Anonymous... sometimes I'm A.... and today, for this special occasion, I'll be Ashley :)
I've mostly lurked here for what feels like forever, but I believe I discovered EE through Miss Snark.
I've yet to submit an opening or query despite having more than one of each on hand. So far my one contribution has been the continuation to New Beginning 392.
I do come and lurk nearly everyday though :-)
I have no idea how long I've been here - seemingly forever. I was a minion before I was a snarkling - two labels I still adore.
Hmm. I know I was a snarkling first, but I'm pretty sure I found EE before the Happy Hooker COM. It's all a happy blur.
I've been flitting around EE's blog for a long time, first as a lurker. Then EE started the New Beginnings stuff and I finally found the cojones to submit something in August, 2007. Has it been that long?
I'm, um, proud? to say that Novel Deviations 1 is my first pub credential! :)
I wrote an angst-filled letter to the Snark about a year ago and (after posting and responding on her blog)she referrred me to Evil. I had a rough first couple of weeks because I am thick-headed. I wrote a lengthy missive to Evil and he, in his inimitable way, suggested I lighten up. After a brief probationary period, I concluded I had attained minion-hood when other minions would do a call-out to me in comments.

I'll admit. At first I didn't get it. There was a lot of discussion about strange things and I was like WTF is a brutal eunuch? But after a few days it started to make more sense, and then I submitted a GTP and EE actually used it, and then I was hooked.
I just went by Miss Snark's to see if she came out of retirement for today.
She didn't.
Was I the only one?
Well, maybe she'll show up here.
It could happen.
Correction: A quick check at my archived email reveals that I submitted something for EE's (and the minions' vivisection) way back in 2006. Cool!

so, being on the west coast, this is my first stop in for the day. Glad to see so many of you beat me to it.
Anyway, I followed a similar pattern--lurked at Snark Central, followed the link. Then posted comments anonymously on EE's blog for a while before realizing that if I was going to say something, I should stand up for it; if I wasn't willing to stand up for it, then I shouldn't say it.
Over the two years, I've submitted about 250 GTPs, and I think about 60% get used, some with pretty heavy editing by The Evil One.
I honestly believe that EE's comments and the minions' ridicule have helped my writing improve. Now if I could only get off the blogs and actually write...
PJD, Have you really submitted 250?!! Wow! That's pretty good.
It took me a while to figure it all out. I can't really get the hang of the GTPs, but I love the continuations.

Although that's why I've been MIA. I'm attempting completion of #2 and blog hopping takes soooooo much time.
Shortly after I became a sporadic Snarkling, she stopped Snarking, so when I began lurking beneath the swish of minions' tails, I figured this EE guy hadn't got long.
Luckily, I was wrong.
Pleasantly crowded in here.
I'll take a seat by this tactically placed box of poodle biscuits and chinwag intermittently.
I was a snarkling before I was a minion, and I found EE through Miss Snark.
I started submitting GTPs anonymously. When I saw one had been chosen, naturally I wanted credit.
Man, this party is neat-o.
Right now- EE is in the bar.
I was on board as a lurker by late April or early May -- the Tierra Red post was the first one I remember, but I think I read back to get to it.
I'm not sure when I started posting. I haven't been around much because it's been a very bad year (family illnesses, writing slump, personal depression) but hopefully I'll be back before long.

But on the cheerful side, youngest got into univisity of choice :)
I think I got here through Miss Snark but that was two computers ago and I can't be sure.
I think I actually found EE before Miss Snark, because I read a blog called Also, A Vampire, and the writer (Caitlin Kittredge) explained why she called it that. Of course now she's all published and whatever, so I don't see her around here much any more... :-)
So I've been reading EE since probably July of '06. But, yanno, mostly as a lurker. Though you've skewered several of my queries and beginnings. :-)

I came in June of 06 or so as well, I think. A couple months late to the party. May have been a pubrants link that got me here. May have been my google query "I want to be humiliated publicly" that delivered me.
I've only submitted a couple openings (I think) but the chance to critique other work has helped quite a bit. I unfortunately have also stopped writing, however, so that's more an article of faith than anything else.
A good number of people have dropped away over time, which is normal. Hawkowl was always there to dislike something back then. What other regulars have vanished?
EE does seem less evil today than back then. He doesn't seem to have gotten any hate mail or hate blogs in a while. I better go send him something. Just for old times' sake.
Oh yeah, Hawkowl! I remember him. Good memory, though--I'd have to scroll back through the old posts to remember the vanished regulars.
What ever happened to Kate Thornton? She always had great continuations and feedback. I know her blogging has tapered off a bit too.

Oh yeah. Kate was great. Funny continuations and insightful comments on writing. I used to wonder what ever happened to whitemouse, only to discover just yesterday that whitemouse is jjbenedictis and still here. If I had time, I'd go dig the names of regulars who are regular no more for a moment of silence.
Ah well, it's the thought that counts.

Wasn't Hawkowl a woman? I remember a woman coming on the blog and bashing everything - EVERYTHING - and people getting on her for doing that.
Kate Thornton - yeah, she did the continuation on the one beginning I tossed into the pile. It was, of course, a brilliant continuation; had me laughing my ass off.
Made it into Novel Deviations with that one. :-)
Hawkowl was a woman living in Alaska. She had the avatar which was a snowy photo of her in an anorak. She was in an online critique group with a friend of mine.

I was just re-reading the original ruthless vigilante sorcerors (along with my fave AFTER GOYA) and got to remember "rei". She was harsh at times as well, but not as consistently as hawkowl. I have no further updates on rei.

I didn't have any idea either, sylvia, but JJ (I guess it was today actually) signed off his congrats comment to EE on the main blog as whitemouse.
I tried to find a way to get in touch with rei- couldn't find one.
But I did find gutterball, and went all the way back to the first few months and found Jenna Black and a few others.
Also Saipan Writer- she should be coming. She was always very nice.
And Bonnie - i think she posted as bonniers. I'm glad she came!
I also found EE through Miss Snark's blog. Mostly lurked in both places, but did submit to one or two Crap-O-Meters and have sent in one query to EE for dissection. My only GTP was for my own query - gave me more time to think about it!
My new strategy is to write a decent query, then edit the novels to fit. I'm currently working on a major edit of one work while creating a query for another that's next on the chopping block. I'll submit that query once I fix a sentence or two.
Whew! I was afraid I'd broken blogger, tried three times to post this and kept getting error messages. Blogger can't handle this party!
Oh, all these names from the past! I miss Hawkowl a lot. I loved her directness, although I know some didn't. I used to visit her blog, but she stopped pretty much. Life stuff, I think.
Rei used to spend a lot of time over at Elektra's Crapometer, but no more.

I think I posted my first query about a month after he started up. I was hooked since then.
One guy - he had a name but no link - blasted me for explaining my puppy-sheep-cow eyes in a bogus beginning. I was pissed at him.
Kate pops up once in a while on my blog, and I think she's a regular over at Absolute Write.
How do you remember these things? I have no idea. Through Miss Snark I assume.
When did I start reading? There's a brief exchange elsewhere with Squirrel in early May so before that? I lurked forever :)

If not for Evil Editor giving of blood and sweat daily, I'd have worn black and eschewed internet writing sites for many months after the divine Miss S's departure.
Evil Editor Saved My Sanity!
His wise and witty words gave me the courage to send out my simpering synopses and quivering query letters to editors foolish enough to use their real names in public.
Sadly, EE can never go public himself. Think of all those irate editors and agents who, because of his merciful dispensations to hapless minions, find themselves forced to turn at least one page before rejecting minion-marketed works. Their workload has doubled, their gin-swilling hours dwindled, their rejection stamps crumble from lack of regular exercise. THEY ARE OUT FOR HIS BLOOD.
Miss Snark retired one step ahead of a flaming-haired mob of her comperes; does a similar fate await Evil Editor?
